  • An Auburn man was sentenced Tuesday to life without parole for kidnapping and killing 18-year-old Thomas Green—whose body was found in the woods near Waverly in September 2020—and co-defendants will face separate trials on capital murder kidnapping charges.  Opelika-Auburn News

  • Alabama schools will enforce a new cellphone ban and offer several new diploma pathways this fall as state lawmakers roll out over a dozen education laws.   • The FDA expanded its cucumber recall after reports linked salmonella to products from Bedner Growers sold in 15 states, including Alabama—resulting in over two dozen illnesses and nine hospitalizations. Walmart recalled its Marketside fresh-cut cucumber slices while Albertson’s withdrew several Greek salad products, and customers are advised to discard any suspicious items.  AL.com
