- ➤ An Auburn man was sentenced Tuesday to life without parole for kidnapping and killing 18-year-old Thomas Green—whose body was found in the woods near Waverly in September 2020—and co-defendants will face separate trials on capital murder kidnapping charges. Opelika-Auburn News

- ➤ Alabama schools will enforce a new cellphone ban and offer several new diploma pathways this fall as state lawmakers roll out over a dozen education laws. The changes also include expanded funding for high-needs schools, updated safety measures, and improved staff benefits — state officials will meet in June to review compliance and funding distribution.
