  • O Grows is hosting a free Houseplant Swap on November 15 from 9 a.m. to noon at 1103 Glenn St in Opelika—locals may swap or sell houseplants, visit plant vendors, and see the garden goats.   • Medal of Honor recipients Jack Stowe, Robert 'Bob' Patterson, and Melvin Morris met with reporters last Friday at John Emerald Distilling Company in Opelika as part of Freedom Fest weekend to reflect on their military service and decorated careers.  The Observer

  • NOAA warned that a G4 geomagnetic storm may produce Northern Lights today in Alabama — stargazers are urged to check spaceweather.gov for updates as the best viewing is expected between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. The storm follows a series of solar eruptions from the weekend that are causing unusually high solar activity.  AL.com

  • Mayor Ron Anders led Auburn's Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial+ the event honored local veterans and their service in a respectful gathering.  Opelika-Auburn News
  • Community leaders from Opelika and Auburn gathered at First Baptist Church on Nov. 4 to pray for Mayor Eddie Smith during the annual prayer breakfast. The event featured speeches that detailed Smith's plans to improve public schools and build a bypass loop—he also shared how his past challenges led him to seek public service.  The Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Auburn High School football team overcame a 21-point deficit to win 52-41 against Vestavia Hills in a first-round playoff game at Duck Samford Stadium on Nov. 7—then they will travel to Baldwin County to face Daphne High School on Nov. 14. This comeback win secured their postseason hopes and showcased a strong team effort.  The Observer
  • No. 22 Auburn beat Wofford 93-62 Tuesday night at Neville Arena — the win moved the Tigers to a 3-0 record. They will face No. 1 Houston on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Legacy Arena — key players Hall and Freeman led the scoring.  The Auburn Plainsman
  • Alabama remains fourth in both the College Football Playoff rankings and the AP Top 25 — the top five group stays unchanged with Georgia and Texas A&M holding strong positions. Oklahoma will travel to play Alabama this weekend, a game that could affect future rankings.  WAKA
  • Trinity Eagles ended their inaugural season at Moore Stadium in Opelika on Thursday night with a 46-22 playoff loss to the Lions from Evangel Christian Academy—Coach Mike Adams said the team grew all season and will improve next year.  The Observer
