COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Auburn-Opelika Tourism was honored with the 2025 Readers’ Choice Award from ConventionSouth—marking its tenth win for excellent customer service and event support. More than 7,000 meeting planners cast their votes for the award, which will appear in the December Awards Issue.  The Observer
  • Downtown Auburn—Opelika is set to host many holiday events from November through December—highlights include an Opelika Holiday Open House on Nov. 9, festive art sales, tree lightings, and family fun that invite residents to celebrate the season together.  The Observer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Miele completed phase one of its relocation plan in Opelika by moving six final assembly lines from Germany to produce built-in ovens and ranges for the U.S., Canada and Mexico markets—more than 50 employees now manufacture 37 models as former Mayor Gary Fuller marked the milestone.  The Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • BigHouse Foundation is planning to open Little House Preschool—designed to give foster children ages zero to five child care and trauma-informed support—and began fundraising today with a golf tournament at RJT Golf Trail at Grand National. Auburn University students will gain practical social work experience as the project scales to serve between 25 and 75 children based on funds raised.  The Observer
  • Retired Army veteran Jimbo Arnold is studying electrical and computer engineering at Auburn University after 20 years of service. He brings lessons from his time overseas—such as discipline and pride in his duty—to his classes while enjoying local Auburn traditions like rolling Toomer’s Corner.  The Observer
  • Auburn University is reviewing course materials and syllabi to comply with SB-129—this state law restricts teaching so-called divisive concepts to avoid faculty terminations while ensuring academic freedom. Faculty in some colleges already submitted signed forms and others must complete their review for fall courses by November 18.  The Auburn Plainsman

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Auburn Heart Club at Auburn University held a successful blood drive where students, residents and faculty donated blood to help local hospitals. The club partnered with LifeSouth (a nonprofit serving over 150 hospitals) and the American Heart Association to encourage lifesaving donations.  Eagle Eye TV
  • Auburn students can join over 80 teams through the Auburn Recreation and Wellness Center, which runs intramural and club sports that boost physical and mental health — easing study stress across campus. Freshmen and juniors say the recreational sports give them a fun and low-pressure option to stay active.  The Auburn Plainsman

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three Auburn High football seniors—Trinton Pritchett, Carnell Jackson, and Greg Williams—were selected to represent the Tigers at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game on Dec. 13 at noon at M.M. Roberts Stadium; this rare honor makes Auburn one of only two teams in the state with more than two players chosen for the event.  The Observer
  • Auburn native Logan Parks and Beulah native Kyle Welcher helped win gold for Team USA at the 19th Black Bass World Championships in Arabie Dam, South Africa last week — their strong finishes helped turn a 19-penalty deficit against Italy with key efforts from Lee County teammates. Next year’s championship will be held in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  The Observer
  • Auburn began the Steven Pearl era with a 95-90 overtime win over Bethune-Cookman at Neville Arena as key players led the comeback after early scoring struggles. The Tigers will host Merrimack on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. to build on their season-opening performance.  Eagle Eye TV
  • High school football teams from Chambers and Lee counties will begin state playoffs on November 7 — Auburn High will host Vestavia Hills at Duck Samford Stadium while games in Trussville, Northport and Goshen set the stage for later rounds. Coaches and players are getting ready for key regional battles as playoff stakes grow higher.  The Observer
