- ➤ Lee County will host a variety of fall events this season—pumpkin patches, festivals, and craft workshops offer family fun at sites like The Farm at Rocky Top, The Farmer in the Dell, and Choctafaula Pumpkin Patch as well as Auburn’s Oktoberfest and Opelika Fall Festival providing games, hayrides, and live music. - ➤ The Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Opelika hosted a peacebuilding event on Sept. 22 that featured speakers including Clifford Jones and Mayor-elect Eddie Smith and honored Laura Cooper with the Dr. Clifford Jones Lifetime Achievement Award for her nearly 40 years at the Lee County Youth Development Center. The event also launched plans for a National Peacebuilder Week and a Flag Peacebuilder Festival in Opelika + Auburn for Flag Day in June 2026. The Observer

- ➤ Cookie Fix, a popular Birmingham-based bakery, will open its new downtown Auburn location at 116 N. College St. in late October. Auburn University alumni Christie, Reel Howell, and Dustin Blomeyer plan to offer warm cookies, frozen dough, and Auburn-inspired treats during corporate hours from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.—with extended hours on game days under consideration. - ➤ The Student Activities Center in Auburn will host the Miss Auburn University Scholarship Competition this Friday to crown the 2026 title—doors open at 5 p.m. and the contest begins at 6 p.m. in an event that offers winners a chance to compete for Miss Alabama. Eagle Eye TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Lee County Commission discussed a new monthly bulk debris pickup program to help elderly and disabled residents who cannot move bulky items from their curbs—eligible residents include those over 72, those over 65 with limited mobility, or those receiving disability benefits and with an active curbside address. The commission has not yet made a final decision on the program. The Observer
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Auburn lost 16-10 to Texas A&M as coach Freeze criticized the heavy use of pass plays over runs—he said the team will take two weeks to review its poor performance before facing Georgia. The Observer
- ➤ Auburn High School beat Moody High School 41-7 in a football game — with strong play from quarterback Cason Myers who passed for 196 yards and ran for 151 yards. The Tigers will host Central High in a 7A Region 2 game on Oct. 3 — a key test before their big home contest. The Observer
- ➤ Loachapoka Indians defeated the Beulah Bobcats 50-6 on homecoming night—quarterback KJ Carter led a strong offense with 128 passing yards—and the win moves the team to 3-3 as they prepare to face Central-Coosa County. The Observer
