- ➤ The Auburn Public Library launched a Houseplant Propagation Station next to the Seed Library to let residents take free plant cuttings and learn about plant care. The station will promote sustainability + build community ties as patrons share their thriving plants. The Observer

- ➤ Southern Greens is a new bodega at 156 N. College Street that offers fresh, made-to-order meals and a welcoming space for Auburn locals and students. Owned by Jessica Rizzo of Boulangerie French Bakery, it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with build-your-own options — and it will extend its hours on game days for special college meal plans. - ➤ Hard Work Farms now delivers pasture-raised meats, eggs and raw milk to Auburn and Opelika through its online ordering system—customers can pick up orders or have them delivered, and owners Ray and Erin Knight plan to add a butcher shop as they grow—focusing on sustainable farming and healthier food. - ➤ Auburn Heritage Association will host the Pine Hill Cemetery Lantern Tour on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery on Armstrong Street—visitors will meet local historical characters and enjoy a live band while ticket sales fund preservation projects. The Observer

- ➤ Even though hot weather persists, local experts advise families to start fall gardens by planting seeds indoors and transplanting them when temperatures cool. They say that reading seed packets helps children learn math and science lessons — while also saving money on fresh vegetables. The Observer

- ➤ The Auburn City Council is accepting applications to fill four Tree Commission vacancies—one unexpired term ending Nov 7, 2026 and three terms beginning Nov 8 and ending Nov 7, 2028—and one Educational Building Authority vacancy with a term from Nov 12 to Nov 11, 2031. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Oct 13, and appointments will be made at the council meeting on Oct 21. The Observer
- ➤ US Rep Mike Rogers visited Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller to present a copy of the Congressional Record from April 28—honoring Fuller for 25 years of service including 21 as mayor and 4 on city council. Fuller said serving Opelika has been his greatest privilege. The Observer

- ➤ East Alabama Medical Center earned the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus designation for high-quality stroke care following national research-based guidelines. The hospital also received honors for Target: Stroke and Target: Type 2 Diabetes and continues to support patients through its specialized Neurology Center. The Observer
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Bruce Pearl has stepped down as Auburn's men's basketball coach and will serve as a special assistant to the athletic director—his son Steven Pearl has been named the new head coach on a five-year contract. Steven, who has spent 11 seasons with the team, will work to keep Auburn's winning tradition alive. The Observer
- ➤ Auburn lost its SEC opener at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium as the No. 22 Tigers fell to No. 11 Oklahoma, 24-17, after a late touchdown ended their comeback. Head coach Hugh Freeze said the team must learn from penalties and third down struggles — and the Tigers will face Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN in their next game. The Observer
- ➤ The Auburn Tigers Cross Country team will travel to Columbia, Missouri this week to compete in the Gans Creek Classic hosted by the University of Missouri—the men's team led by Nickson Chebii and Max Hardin and the women fresh from a Foothills Invitational win aim to build on strong early-season finishes in clear weather. - ➤ The Glenwood Gators had a busy homecoming week—winning 40-0 against the Beulah Bobcats in football, securing five straight victories in volleyball, and posting strong times in cross country—and will face Wadley on Thursday while preparing for more meets ahead. The Observer
