COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Moms and caregivers are invited to join the Java and Juniors event at Well Red Second Story on Sept 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizer Kat Johnson said the event was created to help new moms build support—using in-person coffee meetups to step away from constant online connections.  The Observer
  • At an awards dinner in Opelika Monday night, first responders were honored at the 2025 Valor Public Safety Awards—retired FDNY members who served on 9/11 shared their memories as volunteers in the Tunnel-to-Towers exhibit. The ceremony celebrated local heroes and supported programs that help public safety workers.  The Observer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Will O. Walton was named in the 2026 edition of The Best Lawyers in America — an honor for legal excellence — for his work in personal injury litigation at Walton Law Firm PC in Auburn.  The Observer
  • Hometime Solutions opened a discount furniture store in Opelika in July offering affordable mattresses and pieces for Lee County residents — owner Willie Moore said he plans to expand to a larger facility within two years to give locals more quality options.  The Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Auburn Area Community Theatre will present Disney’s 'Aristocats Kids,' a musical adventure with young performers ages 5-12 at Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. Shows will be held on Sept. 26, 27, 29, Oct. 2, 3 and 4 — with matinees on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 — and tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for children.  The Observer
  • The Depot will mark its 10-year anniversary the week of Sept. 22 in Auburn with special daily preparations that celebrate its creative menu and strong community support. The restaurant will serve innovative dishes—such as fresh oysters and locally sourced flavors—to honor a decade of service and growth.  The Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Auburn City Council approved the biennial budget for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 by a 7-0 vote while one member abstained and another was absent. The budget shows record revenue numbers and increased funding for public safety and the Auburn Public Library — plans that set the city’s financial course for the next two years.  The Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Auburn beat South Alabama 31-15 at Jordan-Hare and improved its record to 3-0 while the Jaguars fell to 1-2. Coach Hugh Freeze said the team will rest this weekend and prepare for its next game against Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.  The Observer
  • Auburn High School beat Enterprise 23-7 in a key region game by scoring quickly and limiting Enterprise to 174 total yards. Quarterback Cason Myers (203 yards and 2 touchdowns) and receiver Joshua Askew helped the Tigers gain an early advantage and control the game.  The Observer
  • Southern Christian beat East Central HomeSchool 40-7 at Moore Stadium on Friday night, keeping their season record perfect at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Quarterback Elijah Bailey threw three touchdown passes and rushed for 160 yards—helping the Patriots secure a decisive win.  The Observer
