CULTURE NEWS

  • Auburn senior Mallory Holland from Huntsville was named Miss Homecoming when Gov. Kay Ivey and Auburn President Christopher B. Roberts presented the award during halftime on September 13. Holland, who studies industrial and systems engineering and is active on campus, won by student vote — her selection included candidates from Chicago, Bucks County, Hoover and Oxford — and now serves as a symbol of homecoming spirit.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Auburn University broke ground on a new 109-foot air traffic control tower last Friday at its regional airport, with officials from Auburn and Opelika present during the ceremony. The $7.2 million project—equipped with a 360-degree observation deck and safety upgrades—will take about two years to complete.  WAKA

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a 31-15 win on Saturday, Auburn’s defense did not stop big passes well while coach Freeze praised the young players but said mix-ups hurt the play—issues that may cost the team in the SEC. The Tigers will work to fix these problems before their game against Oklahoma next week.  The Auburn Plainsman
