COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gigi’s Cupcakes (run by Auburn University alumni Patrick and Jennifer Cooper) gives birthday cakes to foster children under an Alabama DHR initiative that began in 2018. The bakery makes 20 to 30 custom cakes each month and will have donated 1,000 cakes by year’s end (helping give each child a special birthday celebration).  The Observer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dr. Rachel Kring started Liberty Mobile Veterinary Services in 2022 to bring full pet care directly to Auburn—today the mobile clinic offers services such as X-rays, dental cleanings and rapid blood work with six appointments on average per day. The service is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment, and the business plans to expand into mobile boarding at its Dadeville property.  The Observer

CRIME NEWS

  • Auburn Police responded to Kiesel Park on Sept. 6 and discovered the body of retired Auburn University professor Dr. Julie Schnuelle after she was attacked, and detectives later arrested Harold Rashad Dabney III from Montgomery on Sept. 7 on two counts of capital murder after he stole her red Ford F-150—which has now been recovered.  The Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Five candidates for Miss Homecoming 2025 are sharing their platforms at the Haley Concourse—candidates include those with campaigns like Home with Holland and Kick It with Kaylee. Auburn students will vote on Sept. 12 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the winner will be announced at halftime during the homecoming game on Sept. 13.  The Auburn Plainsman

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Auburn Tigers made their home debut on Saturday night by defeating Ball State 42 to 3 in front of a raucous Jordan—Hare crowd. Quarterback Jackson Arnold threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns while the defense recorded six sacks and held the Cardinals to only 68 total yards.  The Observer
  • The ACA Eagles will host the Trinity Wildcats Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Faulkner as they try to break a losing streak that has lasted since 2017 with Head Coach Michael Summers saying matching the Wildcats' physical play is key.  WAKA
  • Southern Christian rallied late to beat Lighthouse HomeSchool 39–34 at Moore Stadium on Friday night—after trailing most of the game. Quarterback Elijah Bailey threw two touchdowns while Jedd Scott and Jagger Scott made key plays, and the Patriots will host East Central next Friday at 7 p.m.  The Observer
  • Auburn High School won its 100th rivalry game against Opelika High School by a 17-10 score on Thursday evening at a packed Bulldog Stadium—both teams played hard in a game that highlighted a long-standing series.  The Observer
