CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the International Student Organization hosts the Squid Games Social Hour from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.—at Melton Student Center Suite 2022—where Auburn University Assistant Professor Dr. Hyongrae Kim will discuss Korean culture and guests can try authentic Korean cuisine.  Eagle Eye TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kay Ivey and House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter filed a lawsuit against the AHSAA because its rule bars CHOOSE Act transfer students from playing sports immediately—state leaders say the rule violates state law and denies thousands of student-athletes their fair chance. The AHSAA said its longstanding bylaws promote competitive equity and it will not change the rule at this time.  WAKA
  • The Auburn City Council postponed its vote on the biennial budget for fiscal years 2026—2027 at Tuesday’s meeting, moving the decision to its second meeting in September.  The Auburn Villager
  • Mayor Ron Anders will give Auburn’s seventh State of the City Address on Oct. 2 at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center—doors open at 5 p.m. and the event starts at 5:30 p.m. as he discusses Auburn’s challenges and successes over the past year.  The Auburn Villager

HEALTH NEWS

  • 7-year-old Chance from Tallassee, who is battling stage 4 brain cancer and receiving weekly chemotherapy in Birmingham, was surprised by Magic Moments with a weeklong trip to Disney World in December. He is excited to meet Mickey Mouse and ride roller coasters—while his family looks forward to a much-needed break.  WAKA

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs beat Percy Julian 40-0 on Thursday night at 17 Springs with running back Damarion Barnes scoring three touchdowns and helping his team take an early safety—creating a strong lead from the start. The victory capped a game where the Mustangs' offense and defense worked well together.  WAKA
