CRIME NEWS

  • Opelika police arrested a suspect—he is linked to a shooting on Herndon Street late Thursday that killed one person and injured two others.  Opelika-Auburn News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lee County Schools will spend over $1.7 million to build a new bus workshop at the Smiths Station annex near the high school baseball and softball fields so that more buses are maintained closer to where most students ride—Beasley Construction won the contract and construction will finish by May. The school board also adopted a new cell phone policy under the FOCUS Act that will require students to turn off their devices during classes and may later be updated to include staff.  Opelika-Auburn News

  • Colton Ledbetter, a Rays prospect listed as No. 25, spoke with Sports Director Lindsey Bonner about returning to play baseball in Alabama—fulfilling a childhood dream of competing at local arenas like the Hoover Met. The outfielder, drafted in 2023 as the 55th overall pick and a former player for Samford and Mississippi State, said he expects a call up by 2026.  WAKA
