BUSINESS NEWS

  • Melissa Gipson — an Auburn baker — launched Beyond the Batch this spring to offer gluten-free baked goods from her home kitchen after her celiac diagnosis. She operates with a Lee County Health permit and free local deliveries and plans to expand into a standalone kitchen and join farmers markets to serve Auburn-Opelika customers.  The Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Auburn City Council will vote in coming weeks on a proposal to raise council pay from $7,200 to $15,000 and the mayor pro tem’s salary to $18,000, with any changes taking effect after new councilors are seated following the November 2026 elections—some members oppose the raise to keep service values intact.  The Observer
  • Auburn city officials updated Toomer’s Corner so pedestrians can cross diagonally + drivers must now wait for a green light before turning right. City staff are stationed at each corner to help people adjust and ease traffic during football season.  The Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former NFL quarterback Eli Manning visited Auburn to film an episode of his ESPN+ series and set a Guinness World Record for the most toilet paper rolls thrown at Toomer’s Corner on July 8+ The event drew a large crowd of Auburn University students, locals and fans who celebrated the city’s enduring tradition.  The Observer
  • Auburn will send transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold, defensive lineman Keldric Faulk (a Highland Home graduate making his second media days appearance) and debuting junior offensive lineman Connor Lew to SEC Media Days set for July 14-17 at the Omni Atlanta Hotel at Centennial Park. Alabama will also send seniors Tim Keenan and Deontae Lawson alongside junior Kadyn Proctor.  WAKA
