- ➤ Eliza Franklin from Eufaula plans to turn the old Wellborn House into an African American history museum to honor her great-grandfather, Willie Jenkins, lynched in 1922, with a soft opening in 2026 and a grand opening by year’s end 2027. She recently graduated from USC and will return to Auburn University to earn her doctorate in history as she works with local groups—like the Black Heritage Society—to preserve forgotten Black history.
