- ➤ Gov Ivey signed a new law that lets the chief justice appoint visiting judges to handle violent crime cases more quickly—Attorney General Steve Marshall requested such an appointment to fast-track the trial of Ibraheem Yazeed, who is accused of kidnapping and killing a college student from Auburn. - ➤ Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed HB8 to ban non-FDA-approved flavored vaping products from convenience stores and to stop sales in vending machines, with the rule taking effect on June 1. - ➤ Opelika City Council unanimously awarded a $7.23M bid to Gamble Winter Construction LLC for phase two renovations at Floral Park — the upgrades will add a field house, new bleacher pads, an inclusive playground and parking lot to serve youth football and soccer.
