- ➤ Lee County Sheriff's Office, Auburn Police Department & Opelika Police Department will hold a memorial service Thursday at Opelika Public Library at 11 a.m. to honor six officers killed in the line of duty and recognize Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins, an honorary deputy and Vietnam veteran. Sheriff Jay Jones said the public event, held on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, will remind the community of the sacrifices made by local law enforcement. Opelika-Auburn News
- ➤ U.S. Navy Capt. Paul 'Puck' Esposito has been named May Veteran of the Month by U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville for his 30 years in the Navy and his leadership at Auburn’s Vets Resource Center. His work at the center—helping increase support for student veterans from 600 to 2,100—and addressing challenges like veteran suicide, food insecurity, and homelessness shows his deep commitment to those he serves.
