EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alabama’s four-year colleges awarded over 26,000 bachelor’s degrees last year, with Auburn University issuing the most business administration degrees while registered nursing topped statewide. Data from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education shows many graduates stay to work in health, education, engineering, and social services.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 17, the Mid South RC&D Council gave a $15,000 grant to the Opelika Fire Department to buy six Rapid Intervention Team kits that keep firefighters safe during emergencies. Fire Chief Shane Boyd said the new gear will help rescue firefighters in trouble.  The Auburn Plainsman

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Representatives of Landmark Properties held a groundbreaking ceremony last Wednesday for an off-campus student-housing project that will offer 800+ beds to students downtown off Wright Street. The project marks a significant addition to local housing options.  The Auburn Villager

  • The Auburn University Board of Trustees approved a massive multi-use center for the north end zone of Jordan-Hare Stadium last Friday — officials say the upgrade will transform the area in a few years.  The Auburn Villager
