COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lanett Welcome Center in Lanett will celebrate its annual Tourism Day on May 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—over 50 local businesses will donate food and drinks while the event features speeches, musical performances, and free treats for travelers.  The Observer
  • The 2025 Log A Load 4 Kids Piedmont District event raised a record $145,023, organizers said. They thanked volunteers, donors, and sponsors for the success (including help from CHIPS of Children’s and Children’s Miracle Network).  The Observer
  • Last week, the Lee County Youth Development Center (LCYDC) held a march and rally to mark National Child Abuse Prevention Month and mayors from Auburn and Opelika signed proclamations to support the cause. LCYDC leaders spoke and thanked community members (including local officials) for their commitment to protecting children.  The Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Auburn Community Orchestra will present 'Nationalism In Music' in a free, family-friendly spring concert on Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. The performance at Auburn United Methodist Church, led by Dr. Russell Logan, will feature works by Dvorák, Bartók, Vaughan Williams, and an arrangement of Irving Berlin’s music — inviting local audiences to experience an evening of classical music.  The Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Auburn University student media is wrapping up the spring semester with a week of events that began on April 21 with the Snaps Magazine Launch Party and will continue with final campus distributions until April 25—today, the Memorial Basketball Game on Noah Phillips Court pits WEGL 91.1 FM against Eagle Eye TV as the station marks 50 years of broadcasting with a series of activities.  Eagle Eye TV
  • Auburn University clubs and organizations are hosting Denim Day today on the campus green space from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the event invites students, faculty, and staff to wear denim in support of sexual assault survivors while offering educational resources and free Kona Ice to the first 75 visitors.  Eagle Eye TV

  • Public notices detail that Matthes Parker LLC completed Auburn University projects and requested final settlement payments while several probate cases in Lee County require creditors to file claims by set dates—additional notices include an Opelika planning meeting for a new comprehensive plan and storage auctions set for early May.  The Observer
