- ➤ Lake Wilmore Park Recreation Center will open 12 new pickleball courts this week—part of a project several years in the making—that will boost local play opportunities. Opelika-Auburn News

- ➤ The second largest brood of periodical cicadas is set to emerge later this spring in 12 states — however, Alabama is not expected to see the insects since a single sighting was recorded in Jackson County in 2008. AL.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A review by the Defense Department inspector general did not find a clear reason why Colorado was picked over Alabama for U.S. Space Command. Rep. Mike Rogers said the White House will reverse the decision by the end of April — a change that could boost local defense industry— as officials reassess the command’s permanent location. - ➤ On April 15, Governor Ivey signed Senate Bill 252, the Community Pharmacy Relief Act, into law to help local pharmacies get fair reimbursement and regulate pharmacy benefit managers. The bill – which sets a uniform dispensing fee of $10.64 and gives enforcement powers to the Department of Insurance – will take effect on Oct. 1. The Auburn Plainsman

- ➤ Alabama women's basketball made program history on April 14 — three Tide athletes were drafted as Sarah Ashlee Barker was chosen 9th by the Los Angeles Sparks, Aaliyah Nye was selected 13th by the Las Vegas Aces, and Zaay Green was picked 37th by the Washington Mystics. Barker set an NCAA Tournament record with 45 points and head coach Kristy Curry attended the event. WAKA
- ➤ Auburn Women's Basketball Coach Larry Vickers added two new members to his staff—Caroline McCombs, returning as an assistant coach, and AK Prestridge, serving as director of basketball operations—after the announcement on April 15. WAKA
- ➤ The Auburn men’s basketball team signed KeShawn Murphy, a 6-foot-10 transfer from Mississippi State and Birmingham native, to boost its front line—Murphy led SEC bench players with a 60.4% shooting accuracy in conference games. He improved his scoring each year and averaged 11.7 points with 7.4 rebounds last season. WAKA
