COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Auburn Oil Co. Booksellers is hosting a puzzle contest today at 6:30 p.m. at its downtown store at 149 E. Magnolia Ave—teams of four pay $50 for a 500-piece puzzle they keep, and the first team to finish wins prizes.  The Observer
  • Worthy2 will host the Warriors for Freedom 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run at 8 a.m. on April 26 at the Opelika Sportsplex to raise funds for programs that aid women and girls affected by sex trafficking and abuse — the event honors Lily Alyscia Ledbetter and sets the stage for a restorative care home for survivors.  The Observer
  • Auburn will host several upcoming events including the Sundilla Acoustic Concert Series with Abby Posner on April 25 at 7:30 p.m., Auburn Cityfest on April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a joint Family Fun Day plus National Drug Take Back Day on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lee County Justice Center. Additional events include Hadestown at the Gogue Performing Arts Center from April 28 to 30 at 7 p.m., Mike Kinnerbrew’s concert on May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at 450 E. Thach Ave, and an end-of-school movie night showing The Sandlot on May 16 at Twin City FOP Lodge — these events offer a range of local options for community engagement —  The Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Auburn’s department of art and art history unveiled its Spring 2025 Senior Project Exhibition Six Figures on April 15 at 5 p.m. at Biggin Gallery at 101 Biggin Hall; six senior fine arts students display their work until April 25.  The Auburn Plainsman

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Beauregard Youth Football Association is launching an NFL-sponsored flag football league for girls this fall in Beauregard — a clinic will be held on July 20 for girls ages 6-17 with registration opening May 1. Officials say the league is built to boost skills and open scholarship opportunities as support grows from local communities including Auburn and Opelika.  The Observer
  • Auburn’s Turf Wars Kickball Tournament — Live on ESPN3 will debut the Limitless Division on May 24 to let athletes of all abilities join the action. Auburn Parks and Recreation will host a clinic before the games to help players adjust — ensuring an adaptive and inclusive competition.  The Observer
