  • Lee County Commission declared April Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month and Commissioner Ross Morris invites community members to attend Twin Cedars Child Advocacy Center's Bites, Brews and Blues fundraiser on April 10 at 6 p.m. at Choctafaula Natural Escape (tickets cost $75, with proceeds supporting local child advocacy services).  The Observer

ECONOMY NEWS

  • U.S. gas prices jumped above $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022 — though AAA reports local costs remain lower at about $3.67, with today’s price three cents higher than yesterday. The national surge comes amid supply-chain shifts caused by the conflict with Iran.  WAKA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lee County Commission honored Maj. John 'Alex' Klinner on March 30 with a resolution for his U.S. Air Force service and sacrifice during Operation Epic Fury, and county officials (including Gov. Kay Ivey) lowered flags at half-mast to honor his memory.  The Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Mar. 24 in Opelika — The Oaks and Trinity split a doubleheader; Trinity scored 18-5 with big inning surges while The Oaks rallied for a 14-4 win using strong pitching, and coach Dave Shabo said the win boosted team confidence.  The Observer
  • On March 24, Auburn High’s Lady Tigers won 4-0 over Benjamin Russell with seniors Laina Rae Sawyer, Caitlyn Brock and pitcher Lily Brewer leading the way — the team improved to 11-4 on a memorable senior night.  The Observer
  • On Tuesday, Mar. 31, Auburn lost 13-3 to Georgia Tech at Russ Chandler Stadium after an early lead evaporated.
