COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dandelion Play Cafe gives families a safe, fun place to play and enjoy coffee and treats. Open since Oct. 15 at 1667 Shug Jordan Parkway, it offers day passes, memberships, and hosts events (snow cone days, tea parties) to help locals connect.  The Observer
  • Opelika resident Greg Leikvold (with the Economic Development Department) joined thousands at White Sands Missile Range on March 21 for the 37th annual Bataan Memorial Death March to honor World War II heroes.  The Observer
  • St. Duns Buns donated funds to support local food programs and mental health services in Auburn. The contributions, accepted by local representatives, will provide meals, hygiene items, and supplies to help organizations serve the community (Daily Bread Project, Campus Food Pantry, EAH Psychiatry Patient Assistance Fund).  The Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Standard Deluxe will celebrate 25 years of the Old 280 Boogie on Saturday, Apr. 18 and Sunday, Apr. 19 at 1015 Mayberry St. in Waverly — featuring live Southern roots music, artisan vendors, and regional cuisine.  The Observer
  • Auburn Area Community Theatre is set to present Every Brilliant Thing, a one-man show about loss and hope, from April 9 to 12 at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (222 E. Drake Ave.). Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.  The Observer

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Auburn Chamber of Commerce held Auburn in Focus on March 24 to discuss opportunities at the Auburn University Regional Airport. Dr. Bill Hutto, the airport’s Director of Aviation, highlighted projects and plans for a new air traffic control tower and runway improvements to boost local aviation and workforce training.  The Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will host Vet Fest on Saturday, April 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families can enjoy live animal encounters, STEM activities, a petting zoo and more, sparking interest in veterinary science and public health.  The Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lee County Sheriff’s Office will host a free Gun Safety for Parents course on April 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. CDT at its training room, offering guidance on safe firearm handling, storage, and use of gun locks (attendees who stay may enter a drawing for a gun safe).  The Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Auburn hosted two SEC teams at Yarbrough Tennis Center, upsetting No. 7 LSU with a 5-2 win on Friday and losing to No. 16 South Carolina on Sunday; coach Bobby Reynolds praised the team's play (noting strong doubles and singles) and said home games against Texas A&M and Texas follow.  The Auburn Plainsman
  • Beauregard High School beat Beulah High School 6-1 on March 26 when Dylan Daugherty + Carson Davis drove in key runs during a four-run sixth inning, and head coach Seth Nolen said the win ended a four-game losing streak and may boost the team for upcoming contests.  The Observer
  • Lee-Scott Academy beat Valley High School on March 25 by a score of 12 — 1 after Sydney Dunlap and Karlee Baker delivered crucial RBIs, and officials ended play due to the mercy rule. The win brought the Lady Warriors to 8 — 7 while the Lady Rams fell to 3 — 12.  The Observer
