EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Highland Avenue Elementary is celebrating Read Across America Week as families, community leaders and volunteers read with students to boost literacy. Principal Muhammad and Librarian Bowman welcomed special guest readers (including Action 8 anchor Estee Morrison) to support the school’s literacy efforts. WAKA
- ➤ Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill to limit screen time in early education and childcare facilities to protect children’s social and cognitive growth; state departments will set guidelines and train staff with the law taking effect on Jan. 1, 2027. WAKA

- ➤ Auburn City Council approved a development agreement with The Foundry, a large mixed use project featuring apartments, commercial space and greenspace in Auburn. The initiative is set to move forward soon. Opelika-Auburn News

- ➤ Food and Wine and Southern Living partnered with Alabama Chefs to host Children's Table, a recipe tasting event benefitting Children's of Alabama from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 3 at Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center; local chefs presented dishes to support the hospital's Food is Medicine Program. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ After a close win over Fort Payne, Park Crossing Thunderbirds will face Hazel Green in the AHSAA 6A Girls State Championship game. The team aims to defend their state title. WAKA
- ➤ On Wednesday night, Khady Leye sank a winning layup with 5.2 seconds left to give Auburn a 50-49 win over Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament. The Tigers snapped the Aggies' five-game streak + will face Ole Miss in the second round on Thursday. WAKA
- ➤ Auburn ended its two-game losing streak with an 88-74 win over LSU yesterday. Tahaad Pettiford scored 27 points (Kevin Overton added 21) as the team shot 54 percent to secure the victory. WAKA
- ➤ Georgia ended Alabama's eight-game win streak last night with a 98-88 victory in Athens as Kanon Catchings scored a career-high 32 points. Alabama, which will face Auburn Saturday, made a late push but lost ground after Georgia built a 12-0 run in the first half. WAKA
