COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, May 18, the Austin 1st Foundation hosts the 4th Aces Fore Austin Charity Golf Scramble at Lakes Course at Robert Trent Jones Grand National in Auburn-OpeLIKA. The event honors Austin (born with a rare brain condition, UBA5 Gene Mutation) and will support research and families facing rare diseases.  The Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Auburn students elected Jackson Morse as SGA treasurer on Feb. 6 at Cater Hall when he ran unopposed. Morse (a junior finance major) said he would boost financial literacy and review the budget to address campus challenges.  The Auburn Plainsman
  • Willis Orr was announced as Auburn University’s new Student Government Association president on Feb. 6 behind Cater Hall after earning 68% of the vote from a 29.68% turnout. He plans to work with university officials to set enrollment targets, address parking issues, and boost classroom quality (while preserving campus tradition).  The Auburn Plainsman
  • This spring, The Observer will welcome three Auburn University interns to its newsroom as they begin hands-on news writing and offer fresh perspectives to local coverage (including students focused on sports and community events).  The Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Auburn swim and dive ended its season on Feb. 6-7 with the Auburn Invitational (a final tune-up meet featuring Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Georgia) and the Tigers will now compete in the SEC Championships in Knoxville from Feb. 16-21.  The Auburn Plainsman
  • Auburn’s wheelchair basketball team secured a dramatic 64–62 win over Alabama and two dominant victories over Missouri in a perfect 3–0 home tournament on Feb. 6, with junior Jude Hiley’s game-changing three-pointer spurring coach Robb Taylor’s squad to a 17–6 season record.  The Observer
