About this event
Jontay Kahm , a Plains Cree designer from Mosquito First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada, approaches fashion with a combination of technical mastery and Indigenous ontology.
Using materials such as feathers, beadwork, quills and fringe, Kahm creates garments that are deeply emotional and emblematic of Indigenous philosophy. His designs range from expansive, vibrant compositions suggesting vitality and movement to darker, more intricate works that evoke introspection and memory.
In recent decades, fashion has emerged as a significant form of visual art, gaining popularity within both museum and pop culture discourse.
Many exhibitions featuring contemporary designers demonstrate how garments can embody identity, cultural knowledge and philosophical ideas.
