About this event
The Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with The Jule Museum and the Native Systems Restoration Lab, is hosting Museum in Motion: Natural Dye Workshop with artist scholar Douglas Pierre Baulos. The program is a part of The Jule’s artist residency where Baulos will meet with students, faculty and the community. The workshop highlights the connections between science, art, and sustainability.
Baulos will share the process of dyeing materials with natural pigments harvested from the University of Alabama in Birmingham Dye Garden in the Conference Hall, room 1101, of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment building. Using natural dyes, participants will personalize a reproduction of the artist’s rendering of a red-cockaded woodpecker from the university art collection. The workshop encourages participants to think more deeply about the origins of the objects they create and use.
Additional partners include:
• Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science Club
• Donald E. Davis Arboretum
• RBD Makerspace
• Society for Conservation Biology
• Studio 5 Art History Club
Registration required. Space is limited. Early registration for students and employees is available via AU Involve. If space is still available, general registration opens to the public on Thursday, November 5th via a Microsoft Registration form that will be posted in this calendar posting.
