About this event
Why are some birds a brilliant red, blue, or yellow, while others blend into their surroundings? Join Dr. Geoffrey E. Hill, Auburn University’s curator of birds and a leading ornithologist, for an engaging exploration of the science behind bird coloration inspired by The Jule’s organizing theme of color and the works of John James Audubon. Drawing on nearly four decades of research, Hill will reveal how birds produce their remarkable colors, what those colors communicate, and what they can teach us about evolution, behavior, and survival.
Through vivid examples and accessible storytelling, this presentation connects cutting-edge scientific research with the birds we encounter every day. Students, bird enthusiasts, and lifelong learners alike will discover how university research helps us gain a deeper understanding of the natural world. Dr. Hill is the author of seven books, more than three hundred scientific publications, and a recipient of the American Ornithological Society’s prestigious Brewster Medal for lifetime achievement in ornithology.
